“Watch out Silverthorn are here to kick your ass!!”

Published on April 29th, 2012

A review of last night’s gig was put on our Facebook timeline by Simon.  Thanks for coming along and rocking out with us!!

Well another gig another Venue!  The Jug and Barrel this time.  I was told after arriving that early on whilst the band were loading in/setting up that they thought they would have to play the gig behind a chicken wire fence a little bit like the Blues Brothers when they played a gig in a cowboy bar.  The pub is not all that big so the area Silverthorn had to play in was not massive.  In fact they were nearly playing on top of each other and for the most part of the evening I expected either Robb or Ruth to sit on my lap.  Being in close proximity to the band I could tell this was going to be one hell of a gig!  When my hearing returns I will let you know!

The gig kicked off with a Queen classic Don’t Stop Me Now which is always a good track to start.  The band have added a new classic track to there set:  Journey’s Don’t stop Believing.  Silverthorn did it real justice and Journey had better watch out Silverthorn are here to kick your ass!! There is another singer who better watch her back and that is Joan Jett.  Ruth’s rendition of I Love Rock “N” Roll is as good as Joan Jett.  The first part of the set finished with a rousing rendition of Bon Jovi’s Living On a Prayer which did get 1 or 2 of the punter’s up and dancing.  Believe me this was a hard crowd to please.

After a break of about half an hour the second set starts with Whitesnake’s Here I Go Again.  A few songs later and the band play Aerosmith’s Dude Looks Like A Lady.  Robb plays it with so much intensity that one of his strings breaks.  Out of the 3 gigs I have seen them play I have never seen a string break but I believe it has happened before.  The bands encore was that great slice of cheesiness that we all love, Europe’s Final Countdown.  So ended yet another great gig and a small corner of the world has been treated to something rather special that is Silverthorn and good old classic rock.

Thanks Simon, hope you get your hearing back soon!  \m/.
